LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- No. 14 Stanford tries to return the favor to Southern California on Thursday night when the teams meet at Staples Center in a Pac-10 Tournament quarterfinal matchup.
Stanford (23-7) lost three times to Southern California last season, including a humbling 103-78 defeat in the quarterfinals of last year's tournament. The second-seeded Cardinal beat the Trojans in both meetings this season and have won seven of their last eight games.
Julius Barnes scored 27 points in an 80-72 victory in the first meeting on January 25 and the Los Angeles County product had 16 in a 73-67 triumph at USC on February 20. Justin Davis keyed the second victory with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
Barnes and fellow Los Angeles-area native Josh Childress have a penchant for playing well in their hometown. Barnes averaged over 21 points in a wins over USC and UCLA and Childress pulled down 12 rebounds in the win over the Trojans.
USC (11-16) snapped a seven-game skid and clinched a spot in the tournament with Saturday's 86-68 rout of last-place Washington State. Desmon Farmer scored 27 points and Rory O'Neil added 16 off the bench for the seventh-seeded Trojans.
Farmer averaged 23.5 points in the two losses to Stanford this season.
The winner will meet California or Oregon State in Friday's semifinals.
