ALBANY, New York (Ticker) -- Villanova faces Siena for the first time in nine years when they match up at Pepsi Arena on Tuesday in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament.
The Wildcats (15-15) last met the Saints (19-11) on March 28, 1994, posting a 66-58 victory in the NIT semifinals.
Villanova leads the all-time series over Siena, 7-2. This marks the fifth consecutive postseason appearance for Villanova, which went 8-8 in the Big East Conference.
Last season, the Wildcats advanced to the quarterfinals of the NIT before falling to Temple, 63-57.
The Wildcats will be limited to just seven players due to the illegal use of a campus phone access code by several members of the team.
Siena had won a six straight games before losing to Fairfield in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals on March 9, 67-63.
The Saints beat Providence OF the Big East here earlier this season.
"We are excited with the opportunity to not only advance to the postseason, but also to host a Big East team on our home floor," Saints coach Rob Lanier said. "Our fans have been extremely loyal this season and this is a great reward for them and our players."
Prosper Karangwa is Siena's leading scorer, averaging 16.7 points per contest.
Siena, which is playing in the NIT for the fifth time, came in third place in the 1994 tournament.
