PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island (Ticker) -- After being left out of the NCAA Tournament, Seton Hall hopes to have a strong showing in the National Invitation Tournament when it visits Rhode Island on Wednesday.
Despite winning 10 games in the Big East Conference during the regular season, the Pirates did not receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Pirates, who dropped three of their last four games following a nine-game winning streak, are led by Andre Barrett, who averages 16.7 points per game.
Seton Hall (17-12) is making its 15th appearance in the NIT, but hasn't won an NIT game since a 96-78 victory over Marquette on March 17, 1956. The Pirates have dropped their last nine contests in the NIT.
Rhode Island (18-11) is led by Brian Woodward's 14.4 points per game and has won three of four following a four-game losing streak.
The Rams are in the NIT for the first time since 1996, when they reached the quarterfinals. Overall, the Rams are 7-10 in this event.
