LAS VEGAS (Ticker) -- Nevada-Las Vegas will try to post its third consecutive victory against Hawaii when the teams clash at the Thomas & Mack Center in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday.
In the last meeting between the schools, the Runnin' Rebels (21-10) posted a 64-59 win over Hawaii in the first round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament. March 3, 1998.
Nevada-Las Vegas also recorded an 89-80 overtime victory against Hawaii in the NIT second round on March 17, 1997. The Runnin' Rebels are 3-1 in their four previous NIT contests at the Thomas & Mack Center.
The Runnin' Rebels own a 17-7 lead in their all-time series with the Rainbow Warriors (18-11).
UNLV's Marcus Banks and Dalron Johnson were named to the all-Mountain West Conference team this season, while Hawaii is led by Carl English with 19.6 points per game.
The victor meets the Minnesota-Saint Louis winner in the second round.
