AMES, Iowa (Ticker) -- Iowa and Iowa State will meet for the second time this season when they meet in a first-round National Invitation Tournament game at Hilton Coliseum on Friday.
Iowa State (17-13) earned a 73-69 victory at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on December 13. The visiting team has won six of the last nine meetings in the series, including a 78-53 win by Iowa last season here.
Jake Sullivan scored 25 points to lead the Cyclones to their December victory. Jackson Vroman added 13 points and Adam Haluska had 12. Glen Worley led the Hawkeyes (16-13) with 19.
Iowa defeated Valparaiso on Monday, 62-60, in the opening round of the NIT. Iowa State advanced by defeating Wichita State, 76-65.
This will be the first time since 1921 that the intrastate rivals have met twice in the same season, and the first time that they have ever squared off in postseason play.
The winner of this game will meet Georgia Tech in the second round after the Yellow Jackets upended Ohio State in their first round game on Wednesday.
