Providence (17-13) advanced with a 67-49 victory at Richmond on Wednesday in the opening round. Rob Sanders scored 16 points and freshman Donnie McGrath added 13 for the Friars, who have won seven of the last nine games.
The Friars are 12-4 at home this season.
College of Charleston (25-7) posted a 71-68 victory over Kent State in the opening round behind 20 points from Thomas Mobley, who made five 3-pointers. Southern Conference Player of the Year Troy Wheless finished with 12 points.
The Cougars are facing an opponent from the Big East Conference for the second time. They defeated Villanova in the Great Alaska Shootout championship back in November.
