CHESTNUT HILL, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Xavier Singletary ignited a key second-half run with a pair of 3-pointers as No. 25 Boston College overcame a sluggish start to defeat lowly Rutgers, 77-51, in a Big East Conference game.

The Eagles (13-2, 4-1 Big East East Division), who rebounded from Tuesday's loss at No. 2 Duke, used a 19-5 run to turn a one-point lead into a 52-37 bulge on Jonathan Beerbohm's basket with 9:15 remaining.

Singletary began the key burst by wrapping his 3-pointers around a free throw by the Scarlet Knights' Eugene Dabney.

Rutgers (8-9, 0-6 West Division), the only remaining winless team in Big East play, had made it a game by putting together a 10-0 run bridging the first and second halves to fight within 29-28 on a score by Rashod Kent with just over 18 minutes left.

The teams traded baskets over the next three minutes and the Scarlet Knights still trailed by only a point after a jumper with 15 minutes to go by Todd Billet, who led Rutgers with 22 points.

But Singletary and Troy Bell, the Eagles' top two scorers, combined for the first 10 points of the game's key burst. Beerbohm added four points during the burst and Kenny Harley contributed a 3-pointer.

Bell, Harley and reserve Ryan Sidney scored 16 points apiece for the Boston College, which shot 49 percent (28-of-37) in the second half and finished at 43 percent (29-of-67) for the game, including 10-of-22 from beyond the arc.

Singletary finished with 12 points and five rebounds and Beerbohm's 11 points gave Boston College five players in double figures. The Eagles committed just eight turnovers while forcing 22.

Dabney came off the bench to collect 14 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots for the Scarlet Knights, who connected on 45 percent (17-of-38) but missed half of their 26 free throw attempts.

Boston College has won six of the eight Big East games between the schools.
