CHAMPAIGN, Illinois (Ticker) -- Frank Williams scored 17 points, including seven in a game-opening 13-0 run, as No. 8 Illinois rolled to a 98-62 rout of Western Illinois. Illinois (8-2) got 3-pointers from Cory Bradford, Williams and Sean Harrington for a 9-0 lead just 2:48 into the game. Williams made two free throws with 11 1/2 minutes remaining to make it 13-0. Western Illinois (4-4) finally got on the board on a basket by Shawn Mason with 10:43 left in the first half and trailed just, 39-29 at halftime. The Fighting Illini gradually pulled away in the second half and used a 23-10 run over a six-minute span for a commanding 78-49 advantage with just under eight minutes left to play. The Fighting Illini got a tremendous boost from a pair of freshmen with Luther Head scoring 14 points and Roger Powell adding 12. Bradford finished with 13. Illinois played without reserve forward Damir Krupalija, who was resting a sprained left foot. Mason led the Leathernecks with 19 points. |
