DAYTON, Ohio (Ticker) -- Brooks Hall took a while to get going. Once he did, he was nearly unstoppable. Hall scored eight straight points late in the second half as Dayton posted an 80-69 triumph over Detroit in the opening round of the National Invitation Tournament. Hall scored just 11 points and had only three with five minutes left. But with Detroit within 68-64, Hall buried a 3-pointer with 4:40 left and followed with a layup just under a minute later. A junior forward, Hall capped his burst with a 3-pointer that gave Dayton a 76-64 lead with 79 seconds to go. He was 1-of-6 from the field before heating up. Dayton (21-10) advances to face Tennessee Tech on Friday. Ramod Marshall led the Flyers with 23 points and Yuanta Holland chipped in 13 off the bench. Greg Grays led Detroit (18-13) with 25 points. The game featured seven ties in the opening seven minutes but Dayton used an 18-6 burst to seize a 35-22 edge with 5:35 left in the first half. But Detroit closed the half with an 8-2 burst to get within five points at the break. Grays kept the Titans close with 15 points in the opening 20 minutes. |
