FORT WORTH, Texas (Ticker) -- Marquette continued its road success, but it did not come easy.
Dwyane Wade had 22 points and 14 rebounds as the 12th-ranked Golden Eagles widened their lead in Conference USA's American division with a 79-68 victory over pesky Texas Christian
The Golden Eagles (20-4, 11-2 C-USA American), who began the day one-half game ahead of Louisville in the division, have won their last six road games after losing in overtime at Dayton on January 4.
The lead grew to 1 1/2 games when Louisville was blown out at Cincinnati later on Saturday.
It appeared that Marquette would have little trouble on Saturday after it jumped out to an early 21-7 lead. But TCU fought back and took a 45-43 lead on a 3-pointer by Junior Blount with 15:01 left.
Marquette soon regained its composure. A dunk by Wade and a pair of free throws put the Golden Eagles up for good at 49-47 with 13:10 left and began a 17-5 run that put the game away.
The Golden Eagles increased their lead to 13 points on a pair of pair of free throws by Wade with 4:35 left. But the Horned Frogs did not go quietly and used a 3-pointer by Blount to cut the lead to 73-68 with 1:50 left.
TCU (8-17, 2-11 National) would get no closer as freshman Steve Novak hit a 3-pointer and Wade had a free throw and a basket to cap the scoring.
Blount had 25 points and Corey Santee added 18 for TCU, which has dropped eight of its last nine games. Blount had a basket and a 3-pointer that keyed a 7-0 spurt and gave the Horned Frogs a 45-43 lead.
Robert Jackson had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who reached 20 wins for the second time in four seasons under coach Tom Crean.
Jamal Brown had eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench for TCU.
Marquette used an 11-0 run to take the early 21-7 lead. The spurt included 3-pointers by Todd Townsend and Travis Diener.
