OMAHA, Nebraska (Ticker) -- Kyle Korver made the first of the "Bracket Buster" games his own personal showcase.
Korver scored 27 points, including seven 3-pointers, as No. 18 Creighton matched the highest win total in school history with a 67-66 victory over Fresno State.
Mike Grimes had 11 points off the bench and Brody Deren added 10 points for the Bluejays (24-3), who equaled the school record for wins set in the 1990-91 season.
The game was the first of the made-for-television contests featuring schools on the fringe of at-large berths to the NCAA Tournament. Creighton made its claim on Saturday by winning for the 16th time at home without a loss, tying the school record for home wins set in 1991-92.
"I think it was good for us, to play a team like that," Korver said. "They were obviously big and athletic. (We wanted to) just come out and see what we have to do to win a game like that."
Fresno State (19-6) had several chances to tie in the final minute, but Damon Jackson missed a pair of 3-point attempts. The last of the two was an airball, which Jonathan Woods put in as time expired for the final basket of the game.
"We had a good effort tonight against this team," Fresno State coach Ray Lopes said. "We competed hard and we had a chance. That is all you can ask for when you are on the road."
Freshman Terry Pettis had 17 points for Fresno State, which had won its three previous road games. The Bulldogs have not defeated a ranked team on the road since January 1996 against Utah.
Korver made 7-of-15 shots from long range, including back-to-back three-pointers that gave the Bluejays the lead for good at 50-49 with 11:46 left. Korver has 101 3-pointers this season to set a school record.
"We tried to stay on him and limit his touches," Pettis said. "But we couldn't limit his touches because they set a lot of screens for him."
The 3-pointer was part of a 20-4 run that began after Noel Felix sank a jumper with 15:14 left to give the Bulldogs a 47-39 lead.
"On a day where offensively we did not play well, during the stretch we came back and took the lead," Creighton coach Dana Altman said. "Defensively and on the boards, we had a good stretch. For our team, that is a big accomplishment."
Korver had a pair of 3-pointers during the run, which ended with a free thrown by Deren with 6:31 left that made it 59-51.
Noel had 16 points and Woods had 12 and 11 rebounds for Fresno State, which outrebounded the Bluejays, 38-33.
A layup by Grimes gave Creighton a 67-62 lead with 2:01 left. Fresno State's Renaldo Major, who had 12 points, sank two free throws with 1:49 left to cut Creighton's lead to three, but the Bulldogs would get no closer until the final basket.
Korver had 15 points in the first half to give the Bluejays a 35-33 halftime lead. Fresno State built an early seven-point lead on a basket by Noel that made it 12-5.
