No contest Former Ohio State guard gets 30 days for damaging carPosted: Wednesday June 24, 1998 01:04 PM
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Former Ohio State guard Damon Stringer pleaded no contest Wednesday to criminal damaging for allegedly jumping up and down on the car of a man after a collision. Franklin County Municipal Court Judge Charles Schneider fined Stringer $100 and gave him a 30-day jail sentence, which was suspended provided Stringer is not convicted of a crime within the next year. Because of the no-contest plea, assault and disorderly conduct charges against Stringer were dropped. Police said Stringer kicked the driver of a car that backed into his car April 26 in a parking lot near campus. Stringer was accused of jumping up and down on the hood and roof of the other car, causing $3,971 in damage. Stringer, a 5-foot-11 junior from Cleveland Heights, led the Buckeyes in scoring as a freshman and sophomore but sat out last season with a back injury. He was expected to return to the team this fall if he was cleared by team doctors but announced shortly after his arrest that he was leaving the team.
