Grant out indefinitely Red Storm's leading rebounder injures right wristPosted: Tuesday January 19, 1999 05:23 PM
NEW YORK (AP) -- Tyrone Grant, the leading rebounder for No. 8 St. John's, will be out indefinitely after an MRI revealed a broken bone in his right wrist, the school said Tuesday. The 6-foot-7 senior forward injured his wrist while fighting through a screen during the Seton Hall game on Jan. 9. He finished that game in obvious pain, playing 27 minutes and getting six points and four rebounds. X-rays taken the next day were negative and he played against Georgetown on Jan. 11, but was limited to 11 minutes and had two points and four rebounds. Grant was involved in a minor car accident the next day and had the wrist X-rayed again and they were negative. His wrist was placed in a soft cast and he sat out the game against Rutgers last Saturday. But there was swelling in the wrist and the MRI on Monday showed the slight fracture and his wrist was immobilized in a hard cast. Grant, averaging 11.5 points and 8.9 rebounds and shooting 61 percent from the field, began rehabilitation and will be re-evaluated on Feb. 4. The Red Storm (15-3) play at Providence on Wednesday night, then play No. 2 Duke at home on Sunday.
