Report: Przybilla gone Suspended center leaves team, will turn proPosted: Thursday February 17, 2000 02:15 AM
ST. PAUL, Minn. (CNNSI.com) -- Minnesota sophomore center Joel Przybilla, suspended Tuesday by coach Dan Monson for academic reasons, has played his last game for the Gophers and will enter the NBA draft, the Saint Paul Pioneer Press reported for Thursday's issue. Przybilla did not attend classes Wednesday, and his family has begun meeting with prospective agents, one of two sources close to the player told the Pioneer Press.Przybilla, in St. Cloud visiting friends, and Gophers coach Dan Monson could not be reached for comment by the paper late Wednesday. The sources told the paper a deteriorating relationship between the 7-foot-1 Przybilla and his first-year coach led to the decision and that "there is no more than a 1 percent chance the player will change his mind." "Joel said he would have stayed four years for Clem [Haskins]," one of the sources said. Minnesota has six regular-season games, starting Thursday against Illinois, and the Big Ten Conference tournament in Chicago remaining. Przybilla has averaged 14.2 points and 8.4 rebounds a game this season, including a career-high 33 points in his most recent game, a Feb. 9 upset of Indiana. He is most likely a first-round pick and has been projected as high as the top 10.
