GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Jackie Smith had 13 points and 10 rebounds to lead Furman to a 68-49 victory over UNC-Greensboro in the championship game of the Southern Conference tournament Sunday. Tara Charles added 10 points and six assists for the second-seeded Lady Paladins (20-10). The win earned Furman an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Tournament MVP Brianne Dodgen and ChoRhonda Gwaltney scored 12 each for the Spartans (18-11), who were seeded fourth and reached the title game by ousting top-seed Tennessee-Chattanooga 73-67 on Saturday. The Lady Paladins used a 13-1 run midway through the second half to turn a 44-39 lead into a 57-40 advantage with just under seven minutes remaining. UNCG cut the margin to 12 at 61-49 on Gwaltney's rebound basket with four minutes left, but Furman scored the game's final points on two free throws by Charles, a drive by Smith, and a 3-pointer by Ashley Shipp.
