Report: Agent contacted Gator, Vol

NEW YORK (AP) -- A sports agent who is unregistered in two states that have laws against contacting college athletes made repeated calls to Mike Miller of Florida and Tony Harris of Tennessee, the New York Times reported Thursday. The newspaper said the agent, Andy Miller, could have broken the law by making numerous calls to Miller, whose team is in the Final Four this weekend, and Harris, who helped take the Volunteers to the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament. The Times said both Tennessee and Florida have strict laws governing agents, including a requirement that they register with the state and that they notify the university when contacting an athlete. In Florida, violating these provisions can be considered a felony; in Tennessee, it is a misdemeanor. The Times based its report on telephone records and diary entries belonging to Andy Miller. According to Jamie McCloskey, the University of Florida's associate athletic director for compliance, Mike Miller acknowledged that Andy Miller called him at least 45 times since Sept. 1 and that he had spoken to the agent at least 20 times. The University of Tennessee said Wednesday that Harris acknowledged speaking with Andy Miller at least a dozen times.
