NEW YORK (AP) -- Duke, which finished No. 1 in the final regular season poll, and Temple, which was ranked No. 5, lead the field for the 2000 Preseason NIT.

Two other teams which finished in the final Top 25 -- No. 15 Texas and No. 22 Indiana -- were also in the 16-team field, which was announced Tuesday.

Pepperdine was the only other school in the field to play in last season's NCAA tournament, while New Mexico, California, Princeton, Villanova, Marquette and Delaware all played in last season's postseason NIT.

The other teams selected for the 16th Preseason NIT were Fairfield, Mississippi State, George Mason, Navy and South Alabama.

The sites, dates and pairings for the tournament will be announced, but the semifinals and finals will again be played at Madison Square Garden.
