DURHAM, N.C. (CNNSI.com) -- Duke center Carlos Boozer was diagnosed Wednesday with a fractured third metatarsal in his right foot and will miss Sunday's game at No. 4 North Carolina as well as the ACC Tournament.
Boozer's status will be reexamined following the ACC Tournament.
"We're optimistic that Carlos can return for the NCAA Tournament," Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski said.
The sophomore from Juneau, Alaska was injured during No. 2 Duke's 91-80 loss to Maryland on Tuesday. He was averaging 14.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.9 blocked shots.
Duke (25-4, 12-3 ACC) will rely on Casey Sanders, a 6-11 sophomore and former McDonald's All-America who has been a disappointment so far in his career, to take over most of the inside load with Boozer out. Matt Christensen, Duke's top frontcourt reserve all season, has been sidelined with sore knees.
