Red Raiders settle with Dickey
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) -- Former Texas Tech basketball coach James Dickey will get $125,000 as part of a settlement for his dismissal in March that made way for Bob Knight to take over the Red Raiders. The settlement comes in addition to a $1.3 million buy-out of Dickey's contract after being fired from the school. Dickey, who was coach since 1991, was replaced by Knight, the former Indiana coach who was dismissed from the Hoosiers after violating a zero-tolerance behavior policy set by the school. The payment releases Tech and Dickey from all claims between the two that "currently exist or may exist in the future" related to his employment, according to a notarized document obtained by The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. Dickey declined comment. "It was just a settlement that was made to finalize James' employment here," Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said. "Basically, that was it." Dickey had three years left on his contract but was fired for not producing a winning season since 1997.
