COLLEGE PARK, Md. (CNNSI.com) -– Maryland sophomore Chris Wilcox will enter the 2002 NBA draft, the school announced Monday.

The 6-foot-10 forward notified coach Gary Williams of his intentions.

“He will leave the University of Maryland in good academic standing and will look forward to continuing pursuit of his college degree," said Williams. "I think Chris will have a great career as a pro.”

Wilcox was the third-leading scorer on Maryland's 2001-02 national title team with 12.0 points per game, 7.1 rebounds and 1.5 blocks. He averaged 13.5 points through six NCAA tournament games.

“Chris was a very important part of our national championship team last season and we wish him continued success in his career,” said Williams.

With Wilcox's departure, the Terps must now replace its top four scorers next season. Juan Dixon, Lonny Baxter and Byron Mouton were all seniors.
