Duke student charged for streaking

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- A Duke student charged with indecent exposure for streaking at the game between the Blue Devils and North Carolina told police he had hoped the stunt would get him some endorsement work.

Robert Findly, 21, also was charged with another misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. He posted $1,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court March 25.

The naked Duke student with a Nike swoosh painted on his back and clad only in running shoes and a scarf appeared on the court Wednesday night with 24 seconds remaining in the first half of Duke's 83-74 victory over North Carolina.

The similarity between the streaking and a Nike shoe commercial that features a naked soccer fan wearing a scarf as he eludes security during a match may not have been a coincidence.

On the way to the police station, Findly told officers he "was trying to be like the guy on the Nike commercial who was running around naked on the soccer field," the incident report said.

Findly also told police he thought he could get endorsements or become famous, the report said.

The national television audience missed Findly's appearance. Cameras were averted after he ran onto the court.
