"I want to thank the fans for their support," Anderson said Sunday in a statement posted on the school's Web site. "Murray State will always occupy a special place in my heart." Anderson, 66, compiled a 103-52 record and led Murray State to two Ohio Valley Conference championships and two NCAA tournament appearances in five seasons. In his first season at the school in 1998-99, Anderson won OVC co-coach of the year honors and was named NABC District 7 coach of the year for guiding the Racers to a 27-6 record and an OVC title. Anderson came to MSU in 1995 as an assistant coach under Mark Gottfried, a position he held for three seasons until Gottfried left to become the head coach at the University of Alabama. Anderson was named the school's 12th head basketball coach in March 1998. Before coming to Murray State, Anderson was an assistant at the University of Georgia and Auburn University. Before entering the college ranks, Anderson was a head basketball coach at Canton High School in Mississippi and West Fulton High School in Georgia, winning a pair of state titles at each school.
