COLUMBIA, Mo. (SI.com) -- Missouri may have violated NCAA rules while recruiting Virginia Military Institute guard Jason Conley, according to a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Members of Missouri’s basketball staff allegedly made at least six phone calls to the mother of VMI star Conley prior Jan. 4, 2002, when Conley asked for a release from the school, according to the report. Conley led the nation in scoring as a freshman in 2001-02, and then transferred to Missouri.

If the allegations prove to be true, Missouri could be found guilty of player tampering, an NCAA violation. It is unclear, however, whether Missouri would face NCAA sanctions for what university officials believe is not a major violation.

In a related report by the Post-Disptach, Missouri coach Quin Snyder and one of his assistants were reprimanded by the school for violating an NCAA rule that states coaches are limited to calling recruits once a week.

Missouri reported to the NCAA on Feb. 6 that Lane Odom, an assistant at Missouri, had five times violated the NCAA rule in the 2002 recruitment of guard Ricky Clemons, according to the report.
