RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- University of Richmond men's basketball coach Jerry Wainwright said he has been contacted by Clemson to possibly fill the school's head coaching vacancy. "I appreciate their interest, and in my mind this affirms the positive direction the University of Richmond's basketball program is taking," Wainwright said in a statement released by the university.

He was not available for further comment from the NCAA Final Four in New Orleans.

Clemson is also considering Tim Floyd, former Iowa State and Chicago Bulls coach, as well as Western Kentucky's Dennis Felton, Creighton's Dana Altman and Dayton's Oliver Purnell.

Larry Shyatt resigned as Clemson head coach last month after leading the Tigers to a 70-84 mark over five seasons, including a 15-13 record this year.

Richmond fell in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament last month to Providence. The Spiders finished the season 15-14.
