MURRAY, Ky. (AP) -- Louisville assistant Mick Cronin was hired as basketball coach at Murray State on Saturday.

Cronin, the top assistant to Louisville's Rick Pitino the last two seasons, succeeds Tevester Anderson, who retired March 23 after five seasons.

Cronin joined the staff at Louisville in April 2001, after serving as an assistant at Cincinnati for five seasons under Bob Huggins.

Murray State went 17-12 last season and lost in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

No details of Cronin's contract were released.
