Big Ten coach of year Ryan gets raise from Wisconsin

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- University of Wisconsin men's basketball coach Bo Ryan will receive at least $4.725 million in total compensation under a revised agreement that runs through May of 2010, a newspaper said Thursday.

The Wisconsin State Journal said Ryan, who was the Big Ten coach of the year in his first two seasons with the Badgers, will continue to receive a base salary of $400,000 due to a salary freeze for almost all UW System employees in light of the state budget crisis.

But the State Journal and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel said Ryan will also be compensated through the University of Wisconsin Foundation and Badger Basketball Boosters.

"This puts him in the middle of the pack among Big Ten coaches," said Tim Valentyn, Ryan's attorney.
