Weber, Illinois improve to 3-0 on European Tour

HELSINKI, Finland (AP) -- Dee Brown led Illinois with 26 points Thursday as the Illini beat KTD-Kotka Tyovaen Palloilijat Basketball Club 100-90.

Illinois is now 3-0 on its European tour.

The Illini trailed 29-28 at the end of the first quarter, when Kotka made five of eight three-pointers. Brown's 17 first-half points helped the Illini take a 54-45 lead into halftime.

"When we were in transition we were very good," head coach Bruce Weber said. "We were bigger and more athletic so we were able to control the boards. Once we settled into a halfcourt game we were able to get a shot after one or two passes."

Brown also had eight rebounds and seven assists. Roger Powell scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

For the game, Illinois shot 50.6 percent from the field while Kotka shot 37.3 percent.

Illinois has Friday off to enjoy Helsinki before traveling to Tallinn, Estonia for games on Saturday and Sunday.
