Anthony Roberson Roberson, along with No. 22 prospect Matt Walsh, has committed to the Gators. Adidas

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (CNNSI.com) -- Florida coach Billy Donovan apparently hasn't lost his hot recruiting touch, landing one of the top two point guards in the class of 2002.

With point guard being the Gators' primary need, Donovan received a verbal commitment from Anthony Roberson, a 6-foot-2 point guard from Saginaw, Mich., the Gainesville Sun reported.

Roberson is rated as the No. 8 overall prospect in the country by CNNSI.com recruiting expert Brick Oettinger. He is the second-best point guard behind only North Carolina commit Raymond Felton.

Roberson chose Florida over Duke, Michigan State and Michigan.

With Brett Nelson expected to leave the Gators for the NBA Draft after the 2001-02 season, Roberson could start as a freshman.

Roberson was said to be leaning toward Duke or Michigan State as recently as three weeks ago before a visit to Florida.

Roberson averaged 24.0 points and 6.0 rebounds as a junior last season. He was an all-state selection for the second straight year.

Donovan also has a commitment from No. 22 prospect Matt Walsh, a 6-5 swingman.

While Roberson and Walsh won't be arriving until 2002, one player who could be contributing to the Gators next season is power forward Adrian Moss of Fork Union Military Academy. Moss recently received a partial release from his letter of intent with Southwest Texas State allowing him to attend a different school this season. He will need a full release to avoid sitting out a year.
