The 14th Annual Raleigh Roundball Classic was held Sunday at Wakefield High. The one-day event provided recruiters a good opportunity to see some of the younger players from the state of North Carolina. Sophomore point guard JamesOn Curry was the top player in attendance.

Over 50 players from the state of North Carolina attended the Raleigh Roundball Classic. Most of the state's better seniors did not attend the event and a number of top underclassmen were missing. However, there were some fine underclassmen, especially sophomores, partaking in the event.

Here's a look at some of the better players in attendance:

  • JamesOn Curry, 6-1/150/PG, Eastern Alamance, 2004: Last year, Curry averaged 23 points a game as a freshman and earned himself an invite to the Nike All-America Camp. He's a big-time scorer who creates shots for himself and one of trademarks is his ability to create separation to get long and mid-range jumpers off. He's also a fine assist man and looks like the top sophomore in North Carolina. He's an elite-level prospect and was the best player here.

  • Jamal Shuler, 6-2/155, SG/PG, Jacksonville, 2004: He played some varsity basketball last year and averaged 9 points a contest. He bears a strong resemblance to former Texas guard Darren Kelly. He's a good scorer with a nice jumper who also likes to get to the rim. His varsity career is just getting started and hešs sure to be one of the statešs better underclassmen.

  • Phillip McCandies, 6-8/200, PF, Parkland, 2002: He raced to the event after his official visit to Virginia Tech, the school he committed to over the weekend. He's very skinny but at the Roundball ran the floor well and finished a few plays with impressive dunks. The potential is there but he needs work in the weight room if he's to contribute at the Big East level.

  • Cameron Stanley, 6-6/180, SF, TBD, 2004: The word is that he's about to move to Pittsburgh, so there's an unsuspecting program in that area which is about to land a potential high-major player. Stanley has plenty of offense, is left-handed and is a good athlete. He loves to let it fly from the perimeter and has 3-point range. Last year, he averaged close to 10 points a game at Millbrook.

  • Junior Hairston, 6-5/175/SF, West Rowan, 2003: Probably accounted for two of the finest drives in the event when he drove, elevated and dunked. Hešs a big-time athlete whose perimeter game needs some honing but he'll no doubt be a mid-to-high-major target with continued development.

  • Donte Minter, 6-8/230/PF, West Rowan, 2002: The early Sunday morning tip seemed to affect him. Minter wasn't his usual self on the boards and looked a little lethargic. Plenty of college suitors were on hand watching him.
