DURHAM, North Carolina (Ticker) -- ShaRae Mansfield had 17 points and 14 rebounds and hit two foul shots with five seconds left as 10th-seeded Western Kentucky escaped with a 68-65 first-round victory over No. 7 seed Marquette in an East Region battle.

The Hilltoppers (22-9) won for the 12th time in 14 games and will play Duke in the second round on Monday.

Jaime Walz drilled a 3-pointer with 54 seconds left to give Western Kentucky a 66-62 lead. Heidi Bowman cut

Marquette's deficit in half with a pair of free throws 10 seconds later.

Abbie Willenborg, Marquette's all-time leading scorer, was fouled with six seconds left but made just 1-of-2 from the line to bring the Golden Eagles within a point.

Mansfield made her foul shots and Kiesha Oliver missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer as Marquette (22-7) fell to 1-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.

Natalie Powers scored 15 points, Walz added 13 and Jamie Britt 11 for Western Kentucky, which won despite shooting just 38 percent (24-of-64) from the floor.

The Hilltoppers, who lost on a last-second shot to third-ranked Louisiana Tech in the Sun Belt Conference championship game, improved to 17-13 in the NCAA Tournament.

Lisa Oldenburg scored 21 points, Bowman added 13 and Kristi Johnson 11 as Marquette absorbed its third straight loss, its longest skid since 1997. The Golden Eagles shot 41 percent (23-of-56) overall and just 65 percent (11-of-17) from the line.
