Site: Rupp Arena, Lexington, Ky. Tournament MVP: Clarissa Davis, Texas So much hype was bestowed upon national Player of the Year Cheryl Miller that Texas used it as a motivating factor. It was Miller's college finale, but the real story was Texas's bench. It outscored USC's reserves, 58-4. Miller was limited to 2 of 11 shooting, while Davis stood out with 32 points and 18 rebounds. High Scorer: Davis averaged 20.6 points over five games. They Said It: "This is the deepest team in college basketball. It doesn't matter who starts. This is a team of 13 individuals," Texas coach Jody Conradt said after winning the title. Interesting Fact: Texas entered the tournament ranked No. 1 in the AP poll for three consecutive years (1984, '85, '86). Firsts: It was Texas' first national championship. Record-setters: Miller finished her career as the alltime tournament leader in points with 333 in 14 games (23.8 average) -- although she would later be passed by Tennessee's Bridgette Gordon (388) in 1989, and Chamique Holdsclaw (479) in 1999. Miller also held tournament career marks for rebounds, with 170 (10.6 per game) and free throws made (91). Texas shot a record 75 percent (42 of 56) versus Missouri in a 108-67 win.
