EUGENE, Oregon (Ticker) -- Exiled to the West Coast by a lack of hotel rooms in Starkville, third-seeded Mississippi State took out its frustration on No. 14 St. Peter's.
Freshman LaToya Thomas had a huge game with 26 points and 15 rebounds as the Lady Bulldogs crushed St. Peter's, 94-60, in a West Region first-round game.
Thomas was 11-of-20 from the field and chipped in five assists for Mississippi State (24-7), which faces UAB in the second round on Sunday.
The Peahens (23-8), under longtime coach Mike Granelli, stayed with the Lady Bulldogs for nine minutes. But Thomas had seven points and Angela Harris nailed a pair of 3-pointers during a 15-0 run that gave Mississippi State a 31-16 lead with just over seven minutes to go before halftime.
Felicia Harris' 3-pointer got St. Peter's within nine before the Lady Bulldogs scored the last four points of the half for a 41-29 lead.
Mississippi State shot 56 percent (23-of-41) in the second half to pull away. Angela Harris finished with 17 points and 10 assists for the Lady Bulldogs, who had a 44-29 rebounding advantage.
Courtney Wicks had 18 points, Felicia Harris scored 12 and Mercy Aghedo chipped in 10 and 10 boards for the Peahens.
