Tournament MVP: Cheryl Miller, Southern California

With six minutes left, both teams were locked in a stalemate at 59. USC finally took advantage when Tech's All-America center Janice Lawrence fouled out with 1:46 to go. At the buzzer Tech point guard Kim Mulkey heaved a desperation 20-footer that bounced off the rim. Miller finished with 27 points, blocked four shots, made four steals and grabbed nine rebounds.

High Scorer: Louisiana Tech's Janice Lawrence averaged 22.8 points over five games.

Interesting Fact: USC coach Linda Sharp, a former literature teacher, brought the youngest starting team to a title game -- two freshmen, a sophomore and two juniors.

Surprise: Louisiana Tech's 30-game winning streak was stopped in the final.

SI's Take: "The fans were missing only one aspect of Miller Time in the final. While she has certainly shown her stuff this season, she hasn't yet shown her stuff. Probably the only woman ever to dunk in organized competition -- twice in high school -- she hasn't slammed even once for the Trojans. And because of Sharp, Miller wouldn't dare in a game as close as the final on Sunday. 'She'd noose me,' says Miller. 'She'd kill me. She'd have a heart attack.' "

Record-Setters: Southern California's Pam McGee shot 71.2 percent (42-59) for a tournament series.

All-Tournament Team: Cheryl Miller, Southern California; Paula McGee, Southern California; Janice Lawrence, Louisiana Tech; Jennifer White, Louisiana Tech; Anne Donovan, Old Dominion.
