It's becoming a UConn phenomenon -- talented, composed freshman who can step up when needed. The nation's top prep player a season ago, Taurasi has emerged as a key contributor for the Huskies, who have returned all five starters and most of their deep bench from last year's national championship squad.
Already one of UConn's top reserves, the freshman proved she could play with the best in the country in the top-ranked Huskies' showdown with No. 2 Tennessee. With All-America Svetlana Abrosimova limited due to back spasms, Taurasi stepped in and gave the Huskies 12 points in 22 minutes, including a crucial 3-pointer with 5:16 remaining after the Lady Vols had trimmed UConn's lead to two.
Taurasi is just one more reason UConn remains the odds-on-favorite to win another national title.
