Iowa Team Capsule

Posted: Wed March 14, 2001 at 8:55 a.m EST

Coach: Lisa Bluder (1st season) Nickname: Hawkeyes

Record and conference: 20-9, Big Ten Seed, Region and Bid: 4, Midwest, Automatic

Previous NCAA Tournament Bids: 12 NCAA Tournament Record: 14-12 Final Four Appearances: 1 NCAA Tournament Championships: None Best NCAA Tournament Finish: 1993, Final Four Last NCAA Appearance: 1998 lost to Kansas, 62-58, Second Round

Starters: F - Jennie Lillis (6-1, Fr., 10.9 ppg, 7.6 rpg) C - Randi Peterson (6-2, Sr., 12.6 ppg, 8.9 rpg) G - Cara Consuegra (5-8, Sr., 11.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg) G - Lindsey Meder (5-8, Jr., 17.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg) G - Leah Magner (5-10, Jr., 8.1 ppg, 3.1 rpg)

Outlook: Iowa was a relatively big surprise this season thanks to the way their experienced starting lineup played together. Cara Consuegra is an excellent passer and Leah Magner is devastating from outside, giving the Hawkeyes a dangerous offensive presence. Randi Peterson shot 53 percent from the floor this season and was the leading rebounder in the Big Ten. The Midwest Region may be the toughest to win but Iowa has the talent and experience to get far and pull off an upset or two along the way.
