Oklahoma Team Capsule
Posted: Wed March 14, 2001 at 8:56 a.m EST Coach: Sherri Coale (4th year) Nickname: Sooners Record and conference: 26-5, Big 12 Seed, Region and Bid: 2, West, At-large Previous NCAA Tournament Bids: 3 NCAA Tournament Record: 4-3 Final Four Appearances: None NCAA Tournament Championships: None Best NCAA Tournament Appearence, 2000, Regional Semifinals Last NCAA Appearance: 2000, lost to Connecticut, 102-80, Regional Semifinals Starters: F - Jennifer Cunningham (6-3, Jr., 6.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg) F - Caton Hill (6-1, So., 12.6 ppg, 9.0 rpg) G - Sunny Hardeman (5-7, Sr., 6.4 ppg, 2.5 rpg) G - LaNeishea Caufield (5-9, Jr., 16.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg) G - Stacey Dales (6-0, Jr., 16.4 ppg, 5.3 rpg) Outlook: Oklahoma missed its shot for a number one seed when it lost in the Big 12 championship game. As a result they wound up in the same region as Duke, Rutgers and Florida -- all viable Final Four possibilities. Stacey Dales was the Big 12 Player of the Year and leads one of the most dangerous offenses in the nation. The Sooners will most likely have to fight past Florida to make the Sweet Sixteen and would then face a dogfight with Duke or Rutgers to get to the Final Four. They can do it, but it will be a tougher road than most other teams will face.© 2003 SportsTicker Enterprises, LP
