Rutgers Team Capsule
Posted: Wed March 14, 2001 at 8:56 a.m EST Coach: Vivian Stringer (6th year) Nickname: Scarlet Knights Record and conference: 22-7, Big East Seed, Region and Bid: 4, West, At-Large Previous NCAA Tournament Bids: 12 NCAA Tournament Record: 17-12 Final Four Appearances: 1 NCAA Tournament Championships: None Best NCAA Tournament Finish: 2000, Final Four Last NCAA Appearance: 2000, lost to Tennessee, 75-62, Final Four Starters: F - Davalyn Cunningham (6-0, Jr., 9.9 ppg, 5.0 rpg) F - Linda Miles (6-0, Sr., 5.2 ppg, 5.6 rpg) C - Tammy Sutton-Brown (6-4, Sr., 12.0 ppg, 5.1 rpg) G - Natasha Pointer (5-6, Sr., 11.0 ppg, 6.0 rpg) G - Karlita Washington (5-9, Sr., 11.6 ppg, 2.3 rpg) Outlook: Not many people have been talking about Rutgers this year compared to last season, and that is what makes them dangerous. The Scarlet Knights handed Notre Dame its first loss of the season and has the ability to beat any team. Tammy Sutton-Brown is a great frontcourt player and Natahsa Pointer runs her offense as well as any other point guard in the NCAA. Rutgers' only weakness is an inability to hit the 3-pointer, but when it plays its style of ball, 3-pointers are not needed. The Scarlet Knights have more than enough firepower and experience to knock off Duke and Oklahoma en route to their second straight Final Four.© 2003 SportsTicker Enterprises, LP
