Tennessee Team Capsule
Posted: Wed March 14, 2001 at 8:56 a.m EST Coach: Pat Summitt (27th year) Nickname: Lady Vols Record and conference: 29-2, Southeastern Seed, Region and Bid: 1, Mideast, At-large Previous NCAA Tournament Bids: 19 NCAA Tournament Record: 69-13 Final Four Appearances: 11 NCAA Tournament Championships: 6 Best NCAA Tournament Finish: 1987, 1989, 1991, 1996, 1997 & 1998 - National Champs Last NCAA Appearance: 2000, lost to Connecticut, 71-52, National Championship Starters: F - Gwen Jackson (6-2, So., 11.8 ppg, 6.3 rpg) C - Michelle Snow (6-5, Jr., 11.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg) G - Semeka Randall (5-10, Sr., 10.7 ppg, 5.0 rpg) G - Kara Lawson (5-9, So., 11.1 ppg, 3.2 rpg) G - Kristen Clement (5-11, Sr., 4.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg) Outlook: Tennessee has been the most dominant program over the past 15 seasons, but that also makes them a targeted team. Even when Temeka Catchings was lost to injury midway through the season, the Lady Vols did not lose until the SEC championship game. They may be less dangerous without Catchings, but they are just a different kind of poison now. With Gwen Jackson, Michelle Snow and Ashley Robinson, Tennessee will have a size advantage over most teams and will exploit it. Purdue and Texas Tech are the Vols' biggest threats in the way of another Final Four, but Tennessee will not have to face both and still has a frontcourt advantage if they face either of them.© 2003 SportsTicker Enterprises, LP
