SOUTH BEND, Indiana (Ticker) -- Elisa Aguilar scored five of her 26 points during a late run that secured seventh-seeded George Washington's 79-72 victory over No. 10 UCLA in the first round of the Mideast Regional. Aguilar nailed a 3-pointer and hit a pair of free throws in a 7-0 run that stretched a 66-64 edge to 73-64 with 1:43 left. UCLA had fought back from an 18-point first-half deficit before Aguilar's heroics. Aguilar hit 8-of-16 from the floor, including 6-of-10 from 3-point range, and also had three assists and two steals. Petra Dubovcova scored 16 points, Kristeena Alexander had 14 and Erica Lawrence 10 for the Colonials (26-5). George Washington will battle Notre Dame in the second round. It is a rematch of the 1997 East Region final when the Fighting Irish advanced to their first Final Four. Janae Hubbard had 15 points and eight rebounds and freshman Nicole Kaczmarksi added 13 points for the Bruins (18-11), who finished fourth in the Pac-10 Conference. Naismith Player of the Year finalist Maylana Martin of the Bruins was held to eight points and nine rebounds in 28 minutes. She is just the second player in UCLA history to record 2,000 points in her career, joining Denise Curry, who scored 3,098 from 1978-81. The Colonials rebounded from their loss in the Atlantic 10 Conference tournament final to Xavier. In that game, they fell apart when star forward Dubovcova fouled out and suffered their second loss this season to the Lady Musketeers.
