LUBBOCK, Texas (Ticker) -- Aleah Johnson scored 22 points and freshman Plenette Pierson added 18 as third-seeded Texas Tech rolled past No. 14 seed Tennessee Tech, 83-54, in a first-round Mideast Region contest. The Lady Raiders improved to 18-11 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 6 seed Tulane in the second round on Monday. The Golden Eaglette were in striking distance until midway through the second half when Texas Tech started to put the game away. Johnson scored eight points and Pierson added four during a 15-4 burst as the Lady Raiders opened a 70-46 lead with 5:58 left. Texas Tech shot 56 percent (20-of-36) from the field in the second half and outscored Tennessee Tech, 50-33. The Golden Eaglette fell to 3-10 all-time in the NCAA Tournament. Amber Tarr added 13 points, Katrisa O'Neal added 10 and Melinda Pharies dished out 12 assists as Texas Tech won for the eighth time in nine games. Keitha Dickerson grabbed 11 rebounds, helping the Lady Raiders establish a 46-34 advantage on the glass. Diane Seng scored 18 points, Megan Isom came off the bench ro score 15 and Janet Holt chipped in 14 and 10 rebounds for Tennessee Tech, which shot just 35 percent (19-of-54) from the floor.
