NORFOLK, Virginia (Ticker) -- Paula Moore made a jumper with five seconds remaining in the second overtime, lifting Syracuse to an 85-84 upset of No. 12 Old Dominion.
Coming off a loss to nationally ranked Penn State, Old Dominion (0-2) has dropped consecutive games to start a season for the first time since 1992. The Lady Monarchs also lost at home for the first time since dropping a 77-61 decision to Tennessee on January 19, 1999.
Beth Record and Leaf Newman paced Syracuse (1-0) with 24 points apiece. That duo combined to make 19-of-42 shots from the field.
Moore finished with eight points and eight rebounds for Syracuse, which shot 44 percent (36-of-81).
Hamchetou Maiga netted 24 points on 9-of-13 shooting and Okeisha Howard 16 for the Lady Monarchs, who shot 39 percent (27-of-69).
