WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Eighth-ranked Louisiana Tech captured its second Preseason WNIT championship with a 68-63 victory over No. 6 Purdue as Ayana Walker scored 24 points.
Walker was only 8-of-23 from the field but made 8-of-8 free throws and grabbed 10 rebounds for Louisiana Tech (4-1), which also won the title in 1996.
Amber Obaze added 16 points and Brooke Lassiter had 12 as the Lady Techsters overcame poor shooting in the first half and handed Purdue (3-1) its first loss of the season.
The Boilermakers overcame a 12-point deficit in the final five minutes, tying it at 59-59 on a layup by Camille Cooper with 1:52 remaining. But Obaze made 2-of-4 free throws before drilling a 3-pointer to put Louisiana Tech ahead, 64-59, with a minute to go.
Katie Douglas scored 22 points on 5-of-16 shooting and Cooper finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds for Purdue, which was just 8-of-34 from the field in the second half and shot under 31 percent overall (19-of-62).
