PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Karlita Washington scored 12 points and Canadian Olympian Tammy Sutton-Brown added 11 as No. 7 Rutgers used a stifling defense to record a 54-29 victory over Vermont in the Rutgers Coca Cola Classic.

Point guard Tasha Pointer contributed 10 rebounds, nine assists and three steals to go with her six points for Rutgers.

The Lady Knights (2-0) broke open the game with a 23-6 run over the final 9:43 of the first half to take a 31-11 lead at the break. Rutgers led by as much as 30 points in the second half.

Vermont shot just 14 percent (3-of-22) and was outrebounded 29-15 in the first half.

Rutgers got a lift from its bench in the charge. Dana Boonen scored all of her six points, Kourtney Walton hit for all of her five and Senegalese Olympic team member Fatime Ndiaye had her four in the decisive run.

Only Dawn Cressman reached double figures for the Catamounts (2-2), scoring 10.

Rutgers will face George Washington in the final on Sunday. The Colonials defeated Washington State, 76-62.
