CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Valerie King scored a career-high 26 points and Tammy Douglass added 16 and 12 rebounds, leading Cincinnati to a 75-59 upset of 17th-ranked Xavier. King scored 14 points in the first half, helping the Bearcats (5-1) open up a 36-26 lead, but the Lady Musketeers (6-1) fought back in the second half. Portia Flournoy gave Cincinnati a 52-39 lead with a layup with 12:35 left, before Xavier went on a 15-4 run to cut the lead to 56-54 on a layup by Shavon Bell with 6:42 to play. Reeta Piipari had three assists, a steal and a 3-pointer to ignite the run for Xavier. But Flournoy was fouled and hit 1-of-2 free throws and King followed with back-to-back 3-pointers, starting a 17-0 run that sealed the victory. The Lady Musketeers did not score for more than six minutes, until Taru Tuukkanen put back Piipari's missed 3-pointer with 37 seconds left, but by that time the Bearcats led 73-56. Kristen Sharp and King dished out five assists apiece for Cincinnati, which held a 34-24 advantage on the boards and shot 49 percent (25-of-51) from the field and hit 9-of-13 3-pointers. Jennifer Phillips scored 22 points for Xavier and Piipari added 11 and nine assists.
