CINCINNATI (Ticker) -- Taru Tuukkanen and Reetta Piipari helped 20th-ranked Xavier Finnish the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 78-67 victory over Butler.
Tuukkanen scored 21 points and pulled down nine rebounds while Piipari collected 15 points and 11 assists for the Musketeers (9-1), who open the Atlantic 10 season on Thursday against Fordham.
Tuukkanen, a native of Helsinki, was 10-of-18 from the field. Piipari, who is from Kotka, Finland, was 5-of-9 as Xavier shot nearly 52 percent (32-of-62). The Musketeers clicked at 54 percent (21-of-39) in the first half en route to a 49-38 lead at the break.
All five starters scored in double figures for Xavier, which got 15 points apiece from Nicole Levandusky and Jennifer Phillips and 10 from Jennifer Parr. Musketeers starters made 31-of-54 shots from the field.
Coach Melanie Balcomb recorded her 101st win at Xavier, moving into sole possession of second place on the school's all-time list.
Valerie Burg scored 14 points and Kelly Kuhn added 10 and 15 rebounds for Butler (5-7), which has followed a three-game winning streak with three losses.
