GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan (Ticker) -- Randy Peterson scored 20 points and Cara Consuegra added 17 and was voted the Big Ten tournament's most outstanding player as Iowa upset seventh-ranked Purdue, 75-70, in the tournament championship.
With their victory, the Hawkeyes (20-9) snapped the Boilermakers' three-year reign as champions and will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Trailing by three points with 4:29 to play, Iowa used a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to take a 71-65 advantage with just 24 seconds left.
Iowa shot 41 percent (24-of-58) from the floor and made 24-of-30 from the free-throw line. Camille Cooper scored 14 points and Shalicia Hurns added 12 and 13 rebounds.
Katie Douglas scored 23 points to lead three players in double figures as Purdue (26-6) committed 19 turnovers which led to 14 Hawkeye points.
The Boilermakers shot 45 percent (27-of-60).
