PHILADELPHIA (Ticker) -- Jennifer Phillips collected 16 points and 10 rebounds as 11th-ranked Xavier crushed George Washington, 81-56, to win the Atlantic 10 Conference championship and earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
The top-seeded Lady Musketeers (28-2) won their 18th straight game, easily defeating the second-seeded Colonials (22-9), who trailed, 41-23, at halftime and had their six-game winning streak snapped.
Reeta Piipari led Xavier with 20 points, Tara Tuukkanen had 16 with seven rebounds and Nicole Levandusky contributed 11 points and five assists for the Lady Musketeers, who overcame 20 turnovers with a 42-32 rebounding advantage.
Xavier connected on 56 percent (28-of-50) of its shots, including 12-of-23 from 3-point range.
Eric Lawrence tallied 17 points and seven rebounds and Ugo Oha added 15 points but committed five of her team's 16 turnovers. The Colonials shot just 34 percent (21-of-62) and were only 9-of-17 at the foul line.
