RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Amy Simpson unleased a 3-point assault late in the first half as fourth-seeded North Carolina State defeated No. 13 Delaware, 76-57, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament's East Region.

Simpson had the final nine points of the first half for North Carolina State, which built a 36-27 halftime lead on her third 3-pointer in a 10-3 run.

The Wolfpack (21-10) extended the run to 17-3 by scoring the first seven points of the second half. Tynesha Lewis capped the burst with a layup for a 43-27 cushion.

Simpson had 17 points in just 20 minutes off the bench for North Carolina State. She went 6-of-9 from the field, 4-of-6 from 3-point range. The rest of the team was 1-of-8 from beyond the arc.

Lewis and Ivy Gardner added 10 points apiece for the Wolf Pack, who shot 54 percent from the field (31-of-57), compared to 36 percent (20-of-55) for the Blue Hens.

Cindy Johnson had 20 points for Delaware (26-5), which was outrebounded, 38-28.

North Carolina State, the host school for this part of the bracket, will play five seed Villanova in the second round on Sunday.
