WEST LAFAYETTE, Indiana (Ticker) -- Camille Cooper scored 23 points as Purdue pulled away late for a 75-62 victory over Santa Barbara in a first-round Mideast Region meeting in the NCAA Tournament.

Purdue (27-6) advanced to meet Louisiana State in the second round on Sunday.

A layup by Shalicia Hurns gave Purdue the lead for good at 44-42 with just over 10 minutes remaining. The Boilermakers made their free throws the rest of the way to fend off the stubborn Gauchos.

Katie Douglas and Kelly Komara scored 14 points apiece for the Boilermakers, who fell to Oklahoma in the second round in last year's NCAA Tournament.

Santa Barbara (22-9) lost for the seventh time in 10 NCAA Tournament games. Nicole Greathouse and Kayte Christensen scored 13 points apiece to lead the Gauchos, who misfired on 14-of-17 3-pointers.

The Boilermakers also went 24-of-35 from the free-throw line, compared to the Gauchos' 9-of-14.

The Gauchos shot 43 percent (25-of-58) and committed 24 turnovers.
