RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Stephanie Baker's only basket sparked a decisive 10-2 run to close the game as fifth-seeded Villanova defeated 12th-seeded Drake, 66-58, in an NCAA Tournament East Region first-round matchup.

Baker's jumper from the top of the key gave Villanova a 58-56 lead with just under four minutes left.

Courtney Mix followed with a baseline jumper and Trish Juhline drained a 3-pointer to push the Wildcats' advantage to 63-56 with 1:38 to play.

A running jumper by Kristin Santa cut Villanova's lead to 63-58 with 1:26 left. But Juhline and Baker combined to make three free throws in the final 16 seconds to seal Villanova's first win in the NCAA Tournament since 1986.

Katie Davis led a balanced scoring attack for the Wildcats with 15 points. Mimi Riley added 14 and Juhline and Mix contributed 13 points each for Villanova (22-8), which overcame a four-point halftime deficit to post its fourth win in five games.

The Wildcats shot 38 percent (23-of-60), including 9-of-27 from 3-point range.

Carla Bennett scored 22 points, including 14 in the first half, to help the Bulldogs build a 34-30 lead. Erin Richards added 11 for Drake (23-7), which could not take advantage of a 40-33 edge in rebounding and remained winless in the NCAA Tournament since 1995.

The Bulldogs closed the season with two straight losses, having lost to Southwest Missouri State in the final of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.
